Introduction
As the design team lead I was in charge of defining and designing the Agrotech management system.
Our main goal was to design an easy to use solution for managing Mono - Cash crop farms, allowing users to obtain the maximum net profit from the various enterprises of a farm.
The problem
The rising demand in food production has made managing large farms inevitable to feed the ever-growing global population. Bigger farm sizes could mean massive quantity of farm inputs, higher investments, large amounts of data, and greater possibilities of crop failure. Farmers spend a substantial portion of their time in monitoring and managing the farm conditions of large sized fields.
Process
My method was to collect all the information needed to understand the product technical flow, the user needs and the farm goals.
Discover
First we clarified the main concepts and terms of crop farms.
Cash and Mono crops
Cash crops are the ones that are cultivated to be sold in the market to earn profits from their sale. Most of the crops grown today worldwide are cash crops.
Monoculture farming is a form of agriculture that is based on growing only one crop at one time on a specific field.
Commercial farming
Commercial farming is a type of farming that uses doses of modern inputs to achieve higher productivity, like high-yielding variety seeds, chemical fertilizers, insectcides and pestcides. A plantation is a form of commercial farming where a single crop is cultivated in a wide area.

Farm management with IoT
Farm manager role
Farm managers are responsible for monitoring and sustaining a farm. They oversee the fertilisation, planting, watering, cultivation, and harvesting of crops.
Farm manager goals
-
Increasing the total farm income sa a whole
-
Improving the standard of living of the farm
-
Effective recycling of farm products and by-products
-
Sustaining the productivity levels and soil health
-
Increasing the employment opportunities
-
Monitor the cash flow throughout the year
